JAPAN CENTER FOR MICHIGAN UNIVERSITIES (JCMU)                                                                                                 JCMU was established in 1989 as a consortium of the fifteen public universities in Michigan to create a sustainable study abroad experience in Japan for Michigan students. Working with Michigan’s sister-state, Shiga Prefecture, the universities created a living-learning facility in Hikone, Japan, maintaining instructional capacity to educate undergraduate and graduate students in Japanese language and cultural studies. Over the past 25 years, JCMU has grown to offer a robust year-round portfolio of programs in a variety of subjects, including intensive Japanese language, internships, environmental sustainability, public health, and teaching English as a second language.
