Japan Festival 2019

A community celebration of Japanese Culture at Novi High School with Tea Masters leading tea ceremonies, matsuri dancing, choral performances of Japanese folk songs, children’s games and Japanese food.

Pictured is Shodo master Kyoko Fujii with the work entitled ‘World Peace’ that she created to the music of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine,’ as a public demonstration of Japanese Calligraphy.

Presented by the Japan Business Society of Detroit and the Japan Society of Detroit Women’s Club in cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan, the Japan America Society and Shiga Prefecture.

Young Professionals' Mixer

A gathering of professionals working in the cross-cultural, bilingual Japanese-American business community was hosted by the JAS and Ikigai Connections at Meadow Brook Hall on December 13, 2018. The next event will be announced soon.

Cranbrook's Japanese-style Garden Restoration Project is underway. The Consulate General of Japan organized the redesign of the Lily Pond Cascade by Master Gardener Hiromu Terashita.

Cranbrook president Dominic DiMarco and Director of the Cranbrook Center for Collections and Research Greg Wittkopp welcomed the Consul General of Japan and Mrs. Wada and supporters to the unveiling of the renewed section of the garden on the sunny afternoon of Tuesday, October 9th. The Consulate arranged for the Japanese team of gardeners, led by master gardener Hiromu Terashita to come from Japan to contribute their time and expertise to restore a section of the large garden.
